Classic Stage Company mounts the dark, Italian-set rumination on unconditional love. Tony Award nominee Kuhn (Chess, She Loves Me, Les Miserables, Rags) plays ugly Fosca, Errico (a Tony nominee for Amour) the beautiful Clara and Silverman (a Raoul of The Phantom of the Opera) the handsome soldier, Giorgio, who inspires them both.

Tony winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd, Company) directs and designs the set; this will not be an actor-musician staging in the tradition of Doyle's Company and Sweeney Todd — and his upcoming Broadway revival of Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Passion opens Feb. 28 for a limited engagement through April 7. Tickets go on sale to the public beginning at noon Jan. 3.

The cast will include Melissa Errico (Clara), Judy Kuhn (Fosca), Ryan Silverman (Giorgio), Tony nominee Stephen Bogardus (Colonel Ricci), Jeffry Denman (Lieutenant Barri), Jason Michael Evans (Private Augenti), Amy Justman (understudy), Ken Krugman (Lieutenant Torasso), Orville Mendoza (Sergeant Lombardi), Tom Nelis (Doctor Tambourri) and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic).

Passion won the 1994 Tony Award as Best Musical. The libretto is by Lapine, the music and lyrics by Sondheim. The new production will have costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting by Jane Cox and sound by Dan Moses Schreier.

CSC is at 136 E. 13th Street.

Tickets are $75 on Tuesday through Thursdays (select sides at $60) and $80 Friday through Sunday (select sides at $65).

Passion will play Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7 PM; Thursdays and Fridays at 8 PM; Saturdays at 3 PM and 8 PM; and Sundays at 3 PM. Passion will also have Wednesday matinees at 3 PM on Feb.13 & 27; March 6 & 27 and April 3.
