The family-fare theatre company, Theatreworks/USA, is targeting single parents and their kids for a special performance of Black Beauty , Nov. 21 at the Promenade Theatre in New York City. "Single Parents Day" offers a musical version of the classic equine story, followed by a brunch for single parents and their families "for a day of culture and socializing," said Susan B. Obel, director of public relations for Theatreworks/USA.
The 10:30 AM performance by the children's theatre company is followed by brunch in the Garden Room of Ernie's Restaurant, 2150 Broadway, steps away from the theatre.
"Many theatres do special events like this," Obel told Playbill On-Line. "We thought it would be ready-made fun. So far we have moms and their kids - we hope to have some dads, too."
Theatre artists who worked on the show will attend the brunch and answer questions about the creative process and talk about other theatre topics of interest to the group.
Single tickets are $18.50. Brunch is an additional $11 per child under 12, $19 per adult. The show is recommended for kids 6-to-11.
Theatreworks/USA, which produces and books a season of professional resident and touring shows for children over 5, will also hold a "Grandparents Day" show-and-brunch event Jan. 23, 1999 to coincide with the musical, The Jungle Book.
