News NYMF Productions Featuring Schaffel, Dilly, Patterson and Shindle Begin Sept. 24 A slew of new productions begin performances Sept. 24 at the 4th annual New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The second week of the festival begins with Erin Dilly and Randy Redd starring in The Cousins Grimm. Featuring a book by Ted Sod, music by Dan Martin and lyrics written by Michael Biello, The Cousins Grimm takes on the classic Grimm fairy tales with a decidedly gay twist. Rachel Coloff, Cole Burden, Jillian Louis, Austin Murphy and Jana Robbins are also featured in the fairy-tale tuner, playing 4:30 and 8 PM shows at the 45th Street Theatre.

Tony nominee Marla Schaffel, Meredith Patterson and Christopher Shyer are Going Down Swingin' in the world premiere of Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi's musical. A reinvention of the classic comedic opera Don Giovanni, Going Down Swingin' also features Stacie Bon, Tom Deckman, George McDaniel, Hardy Rawls and James Stovall. The musical plays through Oct. 6 at the TBG Theatre.

Featuring a book by Ron Sproat, lyrics by Frank Evans and a score by Christopher Berg, Back Home: The War Brides Musical also makes its NYMF debut on Sept. 24. Raissa Katona Bennett, Jeff Scot Carey, Joe Danbusky, Jenn Zarine Habeck, Adam J. MacDonald, Kristin Maloney, Vanessa June Marshall, Christina Morrell, Danielle Erin Rhodes and Steve Sterner star in the World War II-set tuner, playing the Sage Theater through Sept. 30.

Legally Blonde's Kate Shindle and Tony nominee Jane Summerhays headline the spy musical Sympathy Jones at the Julia Miles Theater. Jimmy Ray Bennett, Thursday Farrar, Lucy Sorensen, Amanda Ryan Paige, Charlie Pollock, Tony Chiroldes, Christopher Carl and Glenn Peters complete the cast for Sympathy Jones, which features music and lyrics by Masi Asare with a book by Brooke Pierce. The production plays the Julia Miles Theater through Oct. 4.

Speaking of covert sleuth musicals, Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years, featuring music by Jared M. Dembowski, lyrics by Susannah Pearse and a book by Kate Ferguson and Robert Hudson, makes its New York debut Sept. 24. The cast includes William Connell, Sarah Glendening, Scott Gofta, Nicholas Kohn, Gavin Lodge, Mike Masters, Susan Louise O’Connor, Robyne Parrish, William Ryall, Elizabeth Shepherd, Laura Shoop, Michael St. John and Doug Trapp. Sherlock Holmes runs through Oct. 6 at the Theater at St. Clements. Hanukkah arrives early when Maccabeat! The Hanukkah Musical takes the stage of the Acorn Theater through Oct. 6.With songs by Harvey Shield and Richard Jarboe, book and additional music and lyrics by Chayim ben Ze'ev, Maccabeat! features Jeremy Cohen, Jonas Cohen, Kevin Curtis, Jeff Cuttler, Michael Daly, Mitch Dean, Ryan Dunkin, Preston Ellis, Mark Enis, Margaret Anne Florence, Rachel Frankenthal, Zachary James, Howard Kaye, Liz Kimball, Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Jesse Manocherian, Josephine Rose Roberts, Kaitlin Stilwell and Chris Yonan.
