They say all the world's a stage and, on March 17, the preparations for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will indeed turn many of the streets adjacent to the theatre district into a giant "staging area."

So says the NYPD, which predicts that this year's St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Friday will draw 165,000 marchers and two million spectators along the parade route as it runs up Fifth Avenue from West 44th to West 86th Street.

The police have established a staging area for marchers, which runs from West 42nd Street to West 48th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Beginning at 11 AM on March 17, the parade will proceed north on Fifth Avenue.

The NYPD expects traffic delays and street closures in the general "theatre" area from West 42nd Street to West 48th Street. Theatre patrons may wish to adjust their travel plans accordingly.
