News Oberon Will Present Merry Wives and Sweet Love Adieu in Rep Oberon Theatre Ensemble will present William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and Ryan J-W Smith's Sweet Love Adieu in repertory, opening March 8 at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row.

The Merry Wives of Windsor will be set in the present and will feature the music of Mickey Zettes, the creator of Apathy: the Gen X Musical, which went up at the Midtown International Theatre Festival in 2005. Sweet Love Adieu has a similar milieu to the Shakespeare play, and is written in verse. Press notes describe the play as such: "As the tale begins, a young poet named William has fallen in love with Anne Beaumont, a most fair maiden. But the villainous Lord Edmund of Essex, Anne's powerful and wealthy guardian, has decided to marry Anne himself, assisted in this dastardly deed by his manservant Sidney. With the aid of William's friends Ridley and Latimer, and Ann's cousins Audrey and Faith, a plot is hatched to unite the young lovers in matrimony."

Oberon, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary, combines classic and contemporary works in a way that allows each work to highlight and enhance the other.

Theatre Row is at 412 West 42nd Street. For more information visit www.oberontheatre.org.
