To start out the new year, NY's P.S. 122 will throw two authors-turned performers into rotating rep. Jonathan Ames in Oedipussy and Mike Albo in Spray will alternate slots, Jan. 28-Feb. 20, 1999.

Ames, a columnist for the New York Press, is a self-described "wandering Jew storyteller salesman." His latest novel, "The Extra Man," received good reviews and national attention on its mid '98 release. Ames is also the author of "I Pass Like Night." Oedipussy is the culmination of six years of storytelling, featuring (as you might have guessed) his Oedipal complex and the problems he has because of it.

Using improvisation and dance, Ames begins his sexual exploits at age 12 -- nearly having sex with his mother, later finding a synthesis of his mother and father in dating transsexuals.

Albo explores personal obsessions with consumerism and his identity as a gay Gen X-er in, Spray. Infomercials are blending with quick vignettes and various character monologues in this sped-up send up of societal excess.

Jonathan Ames' Oedipussy and Mike Albo's Spray run in rotating repertory at P.S. 122 (150 First Avenue), Jan. 28 - Feb. 20, 1999. For reservations or specific dates, call (212) 477-5288. -- By Sean McGrath
