According to production notes, "Vanities: A New Musical traces the relationship of three friends, Mary (Lauren Kennedy), Joanne (Sarah Stiles) and Kathy (Anneliese van der Pol) as they transition from small town girls in Texas to college students and finally grown women with careers, children, marriages and conflicts."
The show was originally produced at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, CA, in 2006. The musical won the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Best Musical. An engagement at the Pasadena Playhouse in California followed.
Founded by Kurt Deutsch and Sherie Rene Scott, Sh-K-Boom and its imprint Ghostlight Records has become a leading independent force in musical theatre recording. The label encourages and supports the music of the most innovative new voices on Broadway, to help bridge the gap between pop/rock and musicals, and to preserve the scores of important works.
Ghostlight Records received a 2009 Grammy Award for their double-CD release of In the Heights.
