Maria Mileaf (Going To St. Ives) directs the work to begin previews May 14, closing out the season for the Off-Broadway troupe.
The Argument follows the "funny and heartbreaking" tale of "what happens when a couple find themselves at a critical divide in their relationship," according to a release.
Leo was recently seen Off-Broadway in Neil LaBute's The Distance From Here. and has appeared in the films "21 Grams" and "Hide and Seek" as well as the television series "Homicide."
Rothman last played Off-Broadway in Rodney's Wife. Other credits include Some Americans Abroad, The Mysteries, Death Defying Acts, his own The Impossible H.L. Mencken and the films "Welcome to Mooseport," "Taxi" and "I Heart Huckabees."
Sanders starred in the recent Off-Broadway staging of Lone Star Love. The actor, seen in the film "The Day After Tomorrow," has also appeared in Broadway's Loose Ends, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Saint Joan and Off-Broadway's The Exonerated and Buried Child. Gersten-Vassilaros co-wrote Omnium Gatherum with Theresa Rebeck — which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist last year — and also penned the Broadway play My Thing of Love. As an actress, she appeared last season at the Vineyard in Nicky Silver's Beautiful Child. She has also performed in Alone Together, Lusting After Pipino's Wife, Made in Heaven, Ladies and Loose Ends.
The Argument received a workshop in 2004 at New York Stage and Film's digs at Vassar College.
Director Mileaf — who recently staged Going to St. Ives at Off Broadway's Primary Stages — also directed Oren Safdie's Private Jokes Public Places and the New York premieres of Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran, Lobster Alice, Those Who Can Do, Hard Feelings. Other credits include Tomorrowland, Maid, 99 Histories and the national tour and Chicago productions of Yasmina Reza's ART.
The Vineyard has delayed the world premiere of Kirsten Childs' Miracle Brothers directed by Tina Landau by two months to accommodate casting schedules, according to a spokesperson. Previews for the work will begin in late August for a September opening.
