News Off-Broadway Hit Dog Sees God to Make Toronto Premiere in 2009; Casting Announced Bert V. Royal's popular Off-Broadway comedy Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead will receive its Canadian premiere at Toronto's Six Degrees in March 2009.

Directed by Dora nominee Lezlie Wade, the production will begin performances March 13, 2009, and officially open April 1, 2009, for a limited four-week engagement. "Degrassi" star Jake Epstein will portray CB in the "unauthorized" parody of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang as they venture into adolescence.

Dog Sees God will also feature Adamo Ruggiero as Van, Mike Lobel as Matt, Paula Brancati as Van's Sister, Tatiana Maslany as CB's Sister, Ben Lewis as Beethoven, Alex Saslove as Marcy and Siobhan Murphy as Tricia.

"After his dog's death CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife," according to press notes. "His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister is too busy searching for her own identity; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too intoxicated to provide any sort of comfort. But a chance meeting with a forgotten friend, the target of the group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, and sexual identification collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful."

Creative duties for the Canadian premiere will be announced shortly

Originally presented at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival, Dog Sees God made a commercial Off-Broadway transfer with a cast of young celebrities including Eddie Kaye Thomas ("American Pie," Smelling a Rat) as CB, America Ferrara ("Ugly Betty," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants") as CB's Sister, Keith Nobbs ("Phone Booth," Romance) as Van, Eliza Dushku ("Bring It On," "Tru Calling") as Van's Sister, Ian Somerhalder ("Lost," "Rules of Attraction") as Matt, Kelli Garner ("The Aviator," "Thumbsucker") as Tricia, Ari Graynor (The Little Dog Laughed, Brooklyn Boy, "Mystic River") as Marcy and Logan Marshall-Green ("The O.C.," The Distance From Here) as Beethoven. Playwright Bert V. Royal is a GLAAD Media Award winner for Dog Sees God, which also won the Excellence Award for Best Overall Production for its 2004 world premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival. He is currently at work adapting the stage production for the screen.
