News Off-Broadway Musical In the Heights Offers Previews Discount Off-Broadway's forthcoming new musical, In the Heights, will offer specially priced preview tickets during its four-week preview period, producers announced Dec. 13.

Preview performances from Jan. 9-21, 2007, will cost only $25 with the Jan. 23-Feb. 7 shows priced at $35.

Mandy Gonzalez (Aida, Dance of the Vampires), Priscilla Lopez (Anna in the Tropics, A Chorus Line), Olga Merediz (Mamma Mia!, Reckless), Andrea Burns (Beauty and the Beast), Janet Dacal (Good Vibrations), John Herrera (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Christopher Jackson (The Lion King), Robin de Jesus (Rent), Karen Olivo (Brooklyn, Rent) and composer Miranda in the role of Usnavi will be featured in the cast of the original work to be staged by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler.

The cast also includes Rosie Fiedelman, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Joshua Henry, Nina Lafarga, Doreen Montalvo, Javier Munoz, Eliseo Roman, Luis Salgado, Seth Stewart, Rickey Tripp, Michael Balderrama and Stephanie Klemons.

Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman produce. Previews begin Jan. 9, 2007, toward a Feb. 8 opening at 37 Arts.

With a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes and a score by Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights follows "two days in the life of Washington Heights, a vibrant and tight-knit neighborhood at the top of Manhattan," according to the producers. "From the vantage point of Usnavi's corner bodega, we experience the joys, heartbreaks and bonds of a Latino community struggling to redefine home." The musical features a mix of hip-hop, salsa and merengue music.

Director Kail also helmed a developmental run of the show at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 2005 Music Theater Conference. Music director Alex Lacamoire provides music arrangements and orchestrations with Bill Sherman.

The design team for In the Heights includes Anna Louizos (scenic), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Jason Lyons (lighting) and Acme Sound Partners (sound).
