Rebecca Bayla Taichman — who is lined up to stage Rebeck's The Scene at Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre this season — will direct the new work, which runs Oct. 6-Nov. 12 at the Virginia Wimberly Theatre in Boston Center for the Arts' Stanford Calderwood Pavilion.

The unlikely world of philately (stamp collecting) becomes the setting for this drama which finds two half sisters at odds over a book of rare, potentially priceless stamps who get into "deep trouble with a trio of shady dealers," as show materials explains.

Ireland — who earned her Obie for her work in Cyclone — has previous trod the Off-Broadway boards in The Ruby Sunrise, Manuscript, Sabina, The Harlequin Studies, Savannah Bay, Far Away and Nocturne. She will be seen in the in the 2007 film "The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing."

The ensemble also features Michael Aronov ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch"), Robert Dorfman (The Lion King), Laura Latreille ("Anathema") and James Gale as Sterling ("New York City Serenade").

The design team for Mauritius includes Eugene Lee (scenic), Miranda Hoffman (costume), Paul Whitaker (lighting) and Martin Desjardins (sound) — who also provides original music.  Rick Sordelet serves as fight director while Stephen Kaus is production stage manager. Mauritius was featured in Huntington's 2006 "Breaking Ground Festival" of new play readings in April 2006 and now receives its world premiere this season courtesy of the same company.

A hot playwright of late, Rebeck's The Water's Edge recently played at Second Stage — where her The Scene will play next. Other works include Bad Dates, Omnium Gatherum, Spike Heels, The Family of Mann, View of the Dome and The Butterfly Collection.

The Broadway-bound production of August Wilson's Radio Golf currently plays at Huntington through Oct. 15. Next up will be David Lindsay-Abaire's Rabbit Hole (Nov. 3-Dec. 3), Kate Burton in The Cherry Orchard (Jan. 5-Feb. 4, 2007), Lisa Kron's Well (March 9 April 8, 2007), Noah Haidle's Persephone (March 30-May 6, 2007) and David Rabe's Streamers (May 18-June 17).

Tickets to Mauritius at the Wimberly Theatre, 527 Tremont Street in Boston, are available by calling (617) 266-0800. For more information, visit www.huntingtontheatre.org.
