News Off-Broadway's Berenstain Bears LIVE! Will Honor Late "Berenstain Bears" Co-Creator Jan Berenstain The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters, the Musical, presented by Matt Murphy, will pay tribute to the late co-creator of "The Berenstain Bears," Jan Berenstain, who died Feb. 24. The March 3-4 performances at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre will honor Berenstain.

"We are all honored to have been a part of Jan's dream by bringing her characters to life on stage every weekend," said producer Murphy in a statement. "Our show will continue to inspire children just as the books have for 50 years, with the spirit of Jan Berenstain living on in our story."

The production, which opened June 25, 2011, at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, is directed and choreographed by Devanand Janki. The musical features an original score by Michael Borton and a book by Borton and Michael Slade.

The current cast includes Joel Anthony Frank, Lindsie Detota, Melissa Joiner, Drew Torkelson, Haley Greenstein and Gerry Vega.

Adapted from the classic children’s books by Stan and Jan Berenstain, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters, the Musical, press notes state, "brings everyone’s favorite bear family to musical life. As always, Bear Country is not without its complications: Papa Bear can’t stop eating junk food, Brother Bear’s grades are slipping, and Sister Bear still has a lot to learn about talking to strangers. Thankfully, we can always depend on Mama Bear and her loving patience to help set things right."
