Back in April, Playbill On-Line reported that a new five-person revue by John Forster called Both Barrels was headed for Off-Broadway after a run at Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House, May 6-May 30. Well, now its called A Good Swift Kick, but it made it to Off-Broadway, the Variety Arts specifically. The revue began previews July 13 and will officially open on July 29.
The cast features David Naughton ("An American Werewolf in London"), Wanda Houston, Jim Newman (Big), D'Monroe and Elisa Surmont.
The revue played Goodspeed's second space at the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, CT, in May.
Forster, who writes both the music and lyrics for the revue, is best known for the book and lyrics to the Mary Rodgers musical Freaky Friday. Recently he was nominated for a Grammy Award as co-producer of Tom Chapin's children's album "In My Hometown." At the Goodman, Kick is described as "20 miniature musical plays" poking fun at a variety of societal topics.
Paul Kreppel directs Kick, with Steve Orich acting as musical director. For tickets call (212) 239-6200. -- By Robert Simonson
