Classic Arts News Ojai Festival Opens in Southern California The Ojai Music Festival opens in Ojai, California, tonight with a performance by pianists Helena Bugallo and Amy Williams.
The two pianists play four-hand arrangements of Conlon Nancarrow's 13 Studies for Player Piano and Stravinsky's Sacre du printemps.

The festival, which runs through June 12, takes place at the outdoor Libbey Bowl in the Ojai Valley north of Los Angeles. Founded in 1947, the festival is directed each year by a different musical luminary. (This year's director, composer and conductor Oliver Knussen, is not in attendance because of recent surgery.)

Highlights of the festival include a performance by the Cleveland Orchestra and music director Franz Welser-M‹st, a piano recital by Peter Serkin, and a performance on June 12 of the Ojai Festival Orchestra with Serkin and violinist William Preucil. Repertoire includes works by Knussen and a world premiere by Jonathan Cole.
