Nominees have been announced for the 2019 Bessie Awards, which recognize outstanding creative achievements in the world of dance—spanning choreography, performance, music composition, and visual design.

Among the 2019 nominees for Outstanding Performer is Oklahoma! lead dancer Gabrielle Hamilton, who left audiences breathless in her Broadway debut this season in Daniel Fish’s reimagined take on the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. Veteran New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck, seen earlier this year in the new dance-centric musical Marie, Dancing Still, was also nominated for her sustained achievements with NYCB.

Nominations also went to MacArthur Genius Kyle Abraham for The Runaway at New York City Ballet, as well as Nick Cave’s immersive The Let Go at the Park Avenue Armory.

In addition, two special awards were presented at the July 10 nominations announcement: Daina Ashbee received the 2019 Outstanding Breakout Choreographer Award, and Alice Sheppard was awarded the 2019 Juried Bessie Award.
