Olga Merediz, Gregory Diaz IV, Jimmy Smits Join In the Heights Movie

Olga Merediz, who originated the role of Abuela Claudia in Broadway's In the Heights, will reprise her Tony-nominated performance in the upcoming film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes' Tony-winning musical.

Also newly tapped for the movie are Gregory Diaz IV (Broadway's Matilda) as Sonny and Jimmy Smits (Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, How to Get Away With Murder) as Kevin Rosario.

As previously reported, the Jon M. Chu-directed movie will star Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, Tony nominee Corey Hawkins as Benny, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa, and Leslie Grace as Nina.

The Warner Bros. project, featuring a screenplay by Hudes, is set to arrive in theatres June 26, 2020. Filming will begin—appropriately, on location in Washington Heights—this summer.
