It will begin performances at the fringe Union Theatre in Southwark May 19, prior to an official opening May 20, for a run through June 5 only. She will be joined by Ashley Campbell and newcomer Adam Rhys-Davies.
Jones, who made her West End debut in Hairspray soon after graduating from Mountview Drama School in London, starred in the show from when it began performances in October 2007 through July 2009. In addition to winning the Olivier Award, she also won the Critics' Circle Award for Best Newcomer and the Theatregoers' Choice Award for Best Actress in a musical. Other theatre credits include appearing in the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at Bradford's Alhambra Theatre last Christmas. She has also made many concert appearances, including appearing in A Spoonful of Stiles and Drewe and Christmas in New York, both of which have been issued on CD. She has also appeared in concerts at venues that include the Raymond Revue Bar, the Pigalle Club, Ronnie Scott's and the West End's Vaudeville and Apollo Theatres. TV appearances include "The Royal Variety Show" in 2007, and BBC1's "Tonight's the Night with John Barrowman." On radio, she has appeared on BBC Radio 2's "The Elaine Paige Show", on which she sang live.
Tick, Tick...Boom! was last seen on the London stage in a brief, fully-staged run at the Duchess Theatre in May 2009. The show, written by the late Jonathan Larson (who is best known for his score for Rent), tells the autobiographically-inspired story of a composer wrestling with his career choice. It was originally produced with composer Larson himself appearing in early versions of the show at Off-Off Broadway addresses in 1990. It was subsequently expanded and produced again after his death, premiering at Off-Broadway's Jane Street Theatre in 2001. It received its British premiere at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2005.
It is described in press materials as "a musical look at the courage it takes to follow your dreams." With his 30th birthday fast approaching, Jon is more desperate than ever to kick-start his career and escape falling into oblivion. His girlfriend, Susan, wants to get married and move out of the city. His best friend, Michael, is making big bucks on Madison Avenue. But Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the Great American Musical.
