News   "On Broadway" Songwriters Go Behind Their Music Off-Broadway, Jan. 15-March 14
You've heard "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "Sometimes When We Touch," "Just Once" and "On Broadway." Now the songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil — who penned those and many more songs — will present their songbook on stage with They Wrote That?

Set to begin previews at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre Jan. 15, 2004, They Wrote That? will open Feb. 5 for a limited engagement through March 14.

Richard Maltby, Jr. directs the new work, which has a book by Weil and Mann, and lets audiences in on the what inspired some of the songs, how they came to be sung by the artists and other stories from the duo. James B. Freydberg and CTM Productions produce.

Mann and Weil perform in the work with backup singers and a five-piece band led by musical director Fred Mollin. The design team includes Neil Patel (sets), Laurie Churba (costumes) and Heather Carson (lighting).

Among the wide breadth of their work, Mann and Weil have wrote hits including "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place," "Here You Come Again," "Make Your own Kind of Music," "Sometimes When We Touch," "Who Put the Bomp," "Just Once," "Uptown," "Don't Know Much," "He's So Shy," and "Running With the Night." The team collaborated with Leiber and Stoller on "On Broadway" and "Only in America."
