On the Twentieth Century's Peter Gallagher to Star in New Fox Comedy | Playbill

News On the Twentieth Century's Peter Gallagher to Star in New Fox Comedy Tony nominee Peter Gallagher, star of the current Broadway production of On The Twentieth Century, has been tapped to feature in a new single-camera comedy pilot from 20th Century Fox, according to Deadline.com.

The online news outlet reported that Gallagher will co-star opposite Olivia Thirlby and Ben Aldridge in the new series, titled Detour, inspired by the real-life story of Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo.

The show will follow the life of charming rock star Michael Sturges, played by Aldridge, who goes back to college at age 30 after quitting his successful music career. Gallagher is set to play the role of his professor.

The pilot for Detour was penned by Steve Franks ("Psych") and will be directed by Jeremy Garelick ("The Wedding Ringer").

Gallagher has made headlines lately for his absence from On The Twentieth Century due to illness. Following a week-long break, he returned to the show March 3 but was absent again March 4 and 5. Playbill.com reported March 6 that he would also miss performances March 6 and the March 7 matinee.

Roundabout Theatre Company previously pushed back the show's scheduled March 12 opening night by three days; On the Twentieth Century will now officially open March 15. The limited 20-week engagement will continue through July 5 at the American Airlines Theatre as scheduled.
