Producer Ken Davenport (Spring Awakening, It’s Only a Play) has announced plans to revive the 1990 musical Once on This Island on Broadway, directed by Michael Arden (Spring Awakening).

No dates, cast or theatre were announced.

An industry reading of the show is being set up for December 2-18 in New York. An Equity audition notice for all roles was posted earlier today, with auditions planned for September 12.

Once on This Island, which tells the story of a star-crossed love between a dark-skinned girl and her light-skinned aristocratic boyfriend on a Caribbean island, was the Broadway debut for Tony Award-winning songwriters Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Seussical, Anastasia). The original Broadway production made a star of La Chanze.

A reading is planned for this December, with Jason Michael Webb serving as musical director. The revival will have new orchestrations by original orchestrator Michael Starobin. Ann Marie Milazzo is listed as vocal designer.
