Los Angeles' Getty Center, a $1 billion temple of art that has its grand opening Dec. 16, will have more than 50 art galleries, but will be missing one key cultural element -- there will be no theatre. A Getty spokesperson contacted by Playbill On-Line said there are no plans to offer legitimate stage attractions. There is an auditorium, the spokesperson said, but there are no plans for theatrical events, or even for dramatic readings.
The center, which covers more than a hundred acres in the Santa Monica mountains, took more than 13 years to build.
