The Abingdon Theatre Company is presenting the world premiere of Elisabeth Karlin's play The Mooncalf. The show opened Off-Off Broadway Oct. 24 at the Blue Heron Arts Center and ends its scheduled run Nov. 11. According to a box office spokesperson, tickets are available for all remaining performances.
The serio-comic play shows what might happen when two mothers, two daughters and an animal lover named Daffodil are brought together in a New York hospital.
Sturgis Warner directs for Abingdon, which is a core group of professionals in the community devoted to developing new works through readings and workshops. Cast members include Michael Chernus, Kit Flanagan, Liz Morton, Barbara Rosenblat, Guy Strobel and Debrah Waller. Designing the show are David Castaneda (lighting) and Nancy Yam (costumes).
According to the Shirley Herz press office, The Mooncalf won an honorable mention in the Writer's Digest Writing Competition for Karlin, whose other credits include Lucy's Last Date and Dress Down Day.
