The producers of Rent are holding an open audition in Toronto for "rock/pop/gospel singers" to appear in the upcoming Toronto production of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical by Jonathan Larson.

The audition notice reads:

"Men & women, early 20's - mid 20's
*all ethnicities needed
*AUTHENTIC rock/pop/gospel/singers
Acting experience not necessary!
just need to be a kick ass singer and move well on stage"

Though the auditions are open to all, members of Actors' Equity, the actor union, will be seen first. Auditions will be held Feb. 7 and 8 at Roy Thomson Hall, stage door off Wellington & Simcoe, Toronto. Sign-in runs 9:30 AM to noon.

Auditioners are asked to prepare "two contrasting songs, 16 bars each, pop/rock/or gospel, contemporary music only, strictly no musical theatre tunes. Bring a photo and resume. Must bring sheet music for at least one song. Accompanist provided. Musicians may accompany themselves for one song if time permits." For more information and audition updates, call (416) 462-7567.
