Classic Arts News Opera Colorado Announces 2006-07 Season Opera Colorado will present Mozart's Die Zauberfl‹te, Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, and Verdi's Un ballo in maschera during its 2006-07 season, the company announced.
President and general director Peter Russell said, "I feel that the combination of a classic production of Mozart's masterpiece The Magic Flute to celebrate his anniversary year, a new production of Donizetti's beloved romantic comedy to coincide with Valentine's Day, and a new production of Verdi's intensely dramatic Un ballo in maschera makes for a well-balanced season. "

Kevin Newbury makes his directorial debut with Opera Colorado with the company's staging of Die Zauberfl‹te, which will be presented at the opening night gala on November 10. Soloists in the two principal casts include tenor Richard Reinhardt, who will alternate the role of Tamino with Fr_d_ric Antoun. Sopranos Ying Huang and Heidi Stober make their company debuts sharing the role of Pamina; baritone Mel Ulrich, soprano Amanda Pabyan, and bass Eric Owens will sing in all eight performances.

A new production of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, directed by artistic director James Robinson, with sets designed by Allen Moyer and costumes by Martin Pakledinaz, opens February 9, 2007. The cast includes soprano Maria Kanyova, tenor Barry Banks, baritone Timothy Mix, and bass-baritone Simone Alberghini

Verdi's Un ballo in maschera concludes the season in May 2007. James Robinson will direct the new production, with sets designed by Allen Moyer and costumes by James Schuette. The cast includes tenor Frank Lopardo, sopranos Doina Dimitriu and Heidi Stober, and baritone Charles Taylor.

All performances take place at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in downtown Denver.
