Pearl Theatre has announced that their inaugural Modern/Classics winter reading series will feature an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Salome by "Orange is the New Black" writer Nick Jones.

Jones' work joins Aaron Posner's Stupid F*cking Bird, an adaptation of The Seagull and Oded Gross' The Government Inspector. Readings will take place from Jan. 23-Feb. 1 at the Pearl Theatre.

According to press notes, the Pearl's Modern/Classics series is intended to bring theatre's past into the present. Artistic director Hal Brooks, who recently directed By the Water at MTC, has said that the new series will give "us a chance to explore how classic stories are being told now."

“My background developing new plays and my desire to see The Pearl expand its audience led me to this exceptional group of plays, playwrights and directors. I’m excited to bring together three exciting and bold new adaptations and translations of classic plays to be developed alongside and in concert with our extraordinary season."
