News Orchard Project Announces Summer Residencies, Including Maggie Keenan-Bolger, Rachel Sullivan, Theater J and Northlight Theater The Orchard Project, the artistic retreat that housed the birth of the Tony Award-winning play All The Way, announced the residents of its 2014 summer session in The Catskills.

The premiere program of The Exchange, the Orchard Project will house 24 companies, teams and individual artists to develop new projects in its eighth season, which runs May 29-July 1: 2014 participants include The Royal Court Theatre (London, UK); American Theater Company (IL); Pig Iron (PA); Kansas City Rep (KS); Critical Mass Performance Group (CA); Underbelly Theatre (TX); Northlight Theater (IL); Alison Chase Dance (ME); Mabou Mines (NY); Theatre J (DC); HERE (NY); and PeMO (WA).

In addition to resident companies, the following artists and teams will be in residence: Maggie Keenan-Bolger (From the Inside, Out; Queering History) and Rachel Sullivan (Up and Up: The Dr. Mae C Jemison Story, Blown Away by Poetry); director/writer Michael Rau (Machinal, Aida); playwright/actor Mike Iveson (Elevator Repair Service, Arguendo); playwright Zayd Dohrn (Outside People, Muckrakers); singer/songwriter Dawn Landes (Fireproof, Sweet Heart Rodeo); Danny Goldstein (Godspell, Walmartopia); playwright Kenny Finkle (Transatlantica, Josh Keenan Comes Out to the World); playwright/composer/actress Eisa Davis (Bulrusher, Passing Strange); playwright/lyricist Nathan Tysen (The Burnt Part Boys, Tuck Everlasting); composer Dan Messe (HEM, Eveningland); and professor Timothy McCarthy (Harvard University, "Protest Nation: Words That Inspired a Century of American Radicalism," "The Indispensable Zinn: The Essential Writings of the People's Historian")

All The Way, which won Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Actor (Bryan Cranston), was written in 2010 and 2011 at the Orchard Project and is the first show developed in the its seven-year history to receive these honors.

"We couldn't be more excited for Robert Schenkkan, Tom Bryant, and the rest of the All The Way team for their big win at the Tonys last night," artistic director Ari Edelson said in a statement. "Bold new projects like All The Way need to be born and they need to grow. The Orchard Project is a place where that can happen. As innovative artists and companies gather for another season, I can't wait to see the exciting ideas that develop and shows that emerge."

This year marks the seventh year of the Core Company at The Orchard Project, a nationally sourced apprentice program that allows young artists to train, create their own work, and support resident artists and companies. The Core Company program is led by directors Catherine Mueller and former Core Company member Rebecca Wear. The Orchard Project will also host its second annual "hackathon," a weekend-long event that pairs cutting-edge theatre makers and technologists to co-create innovative artistic technologies.

The Orchard Project has birthed more than 70 new shows, including 33 Variations, The Aliens, The Shipment and Architecting. Shows developed at The Orchard Project have been or will be produced at the Royal Court in London, The Public Theatre, The Humana Festival, The National Theater (UK), American Repertory Theater, Yale Repertory Theatre, The Atlantic Theater Company, Center Theater Group, Playwrights Horizons, Theatre Di Roma, Philadelphia Live Arts and Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
