News Original Annie Best Musical Tony Award Fetches $38K at Auction The 1977 Best Musical Tony Award for the Martin Charnin-Charles Strouse-Thomas Meehan hit Annie sold at auction May 13 for $38,697 according to Boston-based RR Auction.

The Best Musical Tony is inscribed with the following: "Best Musical—Producer, Annie, For Distinguished Achievement in Theatre, 1977."

The long-running hit won seven Tony Awards, including Best Original Score, Best Book, Best Costumes, Best Choreography, Best Actress (Dorothy Loudon) and Best Scenic Design.

Annie has a book by Meehan, music by Strouse and lyrics by Charnin. The original production opened April 21, 1977, at the Alvin Theatre, running for 2,377 performances when it closed in 1983. Andrea McArdle starred in the title role.
