Carole Demas

Two actors who created major roles on Broadway are teaming up to salute Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, songwriters of the long-running phenomenon The Fantasticks, and other musicals.

Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy in Grease, is collaborating with Sarah Rice, who originated the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd, on Thank You for Your Love, set for June 24 and 27 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York. The two will share stories from their careers and their personal and professional relationships with the songwriters. Both women played Luisa (The Girl) in The Fantasticks during its long original run. Among the promised songs will be “Soon It’s Gonna Rain,” “Try to Remember,” and “My Cup Runneth Over.”

The concert will come less than three weeks after the closing of the long-running revival of The Fantasticks at the Jerry Orbach Theatre. Jones & Schmidt also wrote scores to 110 in the Shade; I Do! I Do!; Philemon; Colette; Roadside; and Mirette.

Thank You For Your Love is directed by Charles Repole, with musical direction and vocals by Joe Goodrich, and harp by Maria Banks.

Tickets ($35–$50 plus a $20 food/beverage minimum) are available by calling (212) 352-3101. Demas and Rice are also extending a special discount to MAC and fellow AEA members.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Café is located at 407 West 42nd Street in Manhattan.
