The East Coast premiere of Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's Pink Lady will play the New Jersey theatre through Feb. 10 with an official opening Jan. 18. Rosemary Harris, who starred in the Old Globe production, repeats her work for George Street Playhouse audiences. Frank Dunlop directs.
Pink Lady replaced Donald Margulies' Sight Unseen on the George Street Playhouse's 2007-2008 season schedule. In a previous statement George Street artistic director David Saint said, "I am thrilled and honored to be welcoming Rosemary Harris to George Street Playhouse. It is amazing to me to have this great lady of the theatre on our stage. I am doubly thrilled to welcome back Frank Dunlop, the founder of England's Young Vic Company as well as the Brooklyn Academy of Music's theatre company. He magnificently directed Address Unknown a few seasons ago, and we are so pleased to be able to work with him again. I am equally committed to producing Sight Unseen, as I believe it to be an amazing play, but when this opportunity, with this caliber of talent presented itself, I simply couldn't say no. Sight Unseen will be produced next season."
Oscar and the Pink Lady, press notes state, "tells the story of a young hospital patient and his uplifting relationship with a kindly volunteer 'Pink Lady,' whose daily visits provide him with inspiration and hope." Angela Lansbury starred in a previous reading of the play.
The creative team includes scenic designer Michael Vaughn Sims, costume designer Jane Greenwood and sound designer Lindsay Jones.
Rosemary Harris' Broadway credits include A Delicate Balance, Waiting in the Wings, An Inspector Calls, Hay Fever, Pack of Lies, Heartbreak House, The Royal Family, A Streetcar Named Desire, Old Times and The Lion in the Winter (Tony Award). She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in "Tom & Viv" and won the Emmy for her work in "Notorious Woman." George Street Playhouse is located in New Brunswick, NJ.
