News Oscar Winner Melissa Leo Completes Cast of Side Man Benefit Staging Melissa Leo, who earned the Academy and Golden Globe awards for her performance in "The Fighter," has joined Naked Angels' one-night-only benefit presentation of Warren Leight's Tony Award-winning drama Side Man.

Leo joins the cast as Terry. Previously announced are Tony-winning original cast member Frank Wood, reprising his role as Gene, Zachary Quinto (Angels in America) as his son Clifford, and original Broadway cast members Jeff Binder as Al, Kevin Geer as Jonesy, Michael Mastro as Ziggy and Angelica Torn as Patsy.

Tony Award-nominated Next Fall playwright and former Naked Angels artistic director Geoffrey Nauffts will direct the music-filled piece, which will be presented Aug. 28 at 7 PM at Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY.

Side Man is described as "a tender and poignant memory play about a jazz musician struggling to save both his fading career and troubled home life during the dawn of rock 'n roll in America."

Michael Mayer directed the 1998 Off-Off-Broadway production of Side Man, which later transferred to Broadway and earned the Tony Award for Best Play. The play was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Wood earned a Tony Award for his Broadway debut in the play.
