Neil Armfield directs the limited engagement, which marks the first Broadway return of the Ionesco work since its 1968 premiere. Co-adapted by Armfield and star Rush, Exit the King began performances March 7 and will conclude June 14.

Armfield and Rush previously collaborated on Exit the King in a well-received run at Sydney's Belvoir St. Theatre in 2007.

Rush is joined onstage by fellow Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon ("Dead Man Walking") as Queen Marguerite, Lauren Ambrose ("Six Feet Under," Awake and Sing!) as Queen Marie, Tony Award winner Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, Young Frankenstein) as Juliette, Brian Hutchison (Proof, Invention of Love) as the Guard and William Sadler (Biloxi Blues, Julius Caesar) as the Doctor.

Exit the King company members also include understudies Michael Hammond (M. Butterfly, Long Day's Journey Into Night), David Manis (Coast of Utopia, The Rivals) and Erika Rolfsrud (Coast of Utopia, Rabbit Hole).

Exit the King, according to press notes, "is a hilarious and poignant comedy about a megalomaniacal ruler, King Berenger (Rush) whose incompetence has left his country in near ruin. Despite the efforts of Queen Marguerite (Sarandon) and the other members of the court to convince the King he has only 90 minutes left to live, he refuses to relinquish any control." The design team includes Dale Ferguson (set and costume), Damien Cooper (lighting) and Russell Goldsmith (sound). John Rodgers is the composer.

Exit the King is produced on Broadway by Stuart Thompson, Robert Fox, Howard Panter, Tulchin/Bartner, Scott Rudin, The Shubert Organization and Jon B. Platt.

Tickets, priced $66.50-$116.50, are available by calling (212) 239-6200, by logging on to Telecharge or by visiting the Barrymore Theatre box office at 243 West 47th Street.
