British TV, film and stage comedian Lenny Henry will appear in the title role of Othello at the West End's Trafalgar Studios, which is scheduled to begin performances Sept. 11 (prior to an official opening Sept. 18) for a run to Dec. 12.

The Northern Broadsides production was first seen at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds in February 2009, and has subsequently been seen on tour in the U.K. Remaining touring dates are at the Rose Theatre, Kingston (April 21-25), Newcastle-under-Lyme's New Vic Theatre and the Viaduct Theatre in Halifax (May 5-10).

The production is directed by Northern Broadsides artistic director Barrie Rutter, who founded the company in 1992.

The company's production of Othello has set design by Ruari Murchison, costume design by Stephen Snell, lighting by Guy Hoare and music by Broadsides' regular Conrad Nelson. The West End run is being produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.

The cast also feautres David Beckford (Duke/Gratiano), Matt Connor (Roderigo), Andy Cryer (Montano), Victoria Gee (Bianca), Jessica Harris (Desdemona), Geoff Leesley (Brabantio), Conrad Nelson (Iago), Chris Pearse (Herald), Simon Holland Roberts (Senator/Lodovico), Sara Poyzer (Emilia) and Richard Standing (Cassio).

Lenny Henry's many TV credits for the BBC include "Lennyhenry.tv," "Lenny's Britain," "The Lenny Henry Show," "The Lenny Henry Christmas Special," "Lenny Henry In Pieces," and the documentaries "Lenny's Atlantic Adventure" and "Lenny's Big Amazon Adventure." His film credits include the voice of Shrunken Head in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," "True Identity," "Live and Unleashed" and "Work Experience."
