Theatregoers (male and female) attending the Sept. 14 7:30 PM performance are invited to wear their "best pageant attire" to receive half-priced tickets, available on a first-come, first-served basis. The annual Miss America Pageant is held in Atlantic City, NJ that same evening.
The Pageant contestants and the guest judges for the evening will turn the tables on the audience following the performance to crown a best-dressed audience member in pageant attire. The winner will receive a special gift package that includes a Pageant tiara, hosiery and more.
Directed by Matt Lenz, the production features contestants Nick Cearley (The Skivvies), Nic Cory (Signs of Life), Alex Ringler (West Side Story), Marty Thomas (Wicked, Xanadu), Seth Tucker (Our Kiki) and Curtis Wiley (Motown), with Drama Desk nominee John Bolton (A Christmas Story, Titanic) as the host.
Performances of Pageant take place Mondays at 7 PM, Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7:30 PM.
Here's how it's billed: "Like every beauty pageant you've seen before, Pageant features contestants desperately vying for a glittering tiara. With swimsuit, talent, and evening gown competitions – the show includes both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat! Unlike some beauty pageants you've seen before, the female contestants are all played by men. And the audience gets to select the winner each night. Filled with excitement and suspense, but first and foremost, beauty. Let the beauty begin!" Pageant, which premiered Off-Broadway in 1991 at the Blue Angel, is written by two-time Tony nominee Bill Russell (Side Show) and Kelly, with music by Evans. It was conceived by Robert Longbottom (Side Show). The new production is produced by SAS Productions in association with Kitty Potapow.
The production has choreography by Shea Sullivan, music supervision by Mark Hartman, scenic design by Paul Tate DePoo III, costumes by Stephen Yearick, lighting by Paul Miller, sound by David Sanderson and casting by Duncan Stewart and Company. Music direction is by Micah Young.
Pageant is produced by SAS Productions, Kitty Potapow, Drew Desky and Michelle R. Rogers. ABS Productions serves as executive producer.
