The piece, which explores two midwesterners who reunite in New York City and rekindle a love affair they left behind in their teens, premiered as part of the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The 7 PM concert at 54 Below reunites Almond with original NYMF cast members Bob (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) and Bogart (Jersey Boys).

"Pamela Bob and Matt Bogart created these roles ten years ago and it's been fascinating to come back to the show with these brilliant actors, because we've all grown, we've all matured, and the show has matured," Almond told Playbill.com. "I've rewritten some of the material and I feel like it's a brand-new show, in a way."

Here's how the musical is characterized: "Two lonely people, adrift in their thirties and in their vastly different careers, bump into each other one snowy New Year’s Eve in New York City and rekindle the romance they once shared as teenagers in the midwest. How much of yourself do you have to change to be the person you once were?"

The music from People Like Us is among Almond's most-requested material. It includes "Sky Above Manhattan," "We Laugh," "Sleep in the Light," "Moon over Nebraska" and "Let Me Guess." Almond has penned A Separate Piece, Melancholy Play, On the Levee, Girlfriend, People Like Us, Kansas City Choir Boy, Ahraihsak and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, which premiered at Yale Rep. He has appeared at 54 Below with Sherie Rene Scott in their collaboration Piece of Meat. This summer, Almond will return to the Delacorte Theater to compose The Winter's Tale, a collaboration with Lear deBessonet, with whom he created last summer's Public Works production of The Tempest. His albums "Mexico City" and "Memorial Day" are currently available.
