Wolpe, who has appeared in several Paper Mill productions, will play the Baker in the New Jersey theatre's mounting of the little-produced Stephen Schwartz musical. Wolpe is no stranger to the show, having played the role of the Baker in the Goodspeed's recent production. The part of his wife, originated by Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, has yet to be cast. The cult favorite The Baker's Wife — the Broadway-bound musical that never quite made it to Broadway — will be mounted at the Paper Mill April 13-May 22. The Schwartz-Joseph Stein musical, which features the cabaret classic "Meadowlark," will be directed by Gordon Greenberg. Based on the film "La Femme du Boulanger" by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, the musical's original cast included Paul Sorvino as the Baker and LuPone in the title role.

Lenny Wolpe appeared on Broadway in Onward Victoria, Copperfield, Mayor, Into the Light and the recent revival of The Sound of Music. He played Herbie opposite Betty Buckley's Rose in the Paper Mill production of Gypsy, and recently returned to the Paper Mill as the Allergist in The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. Wolpe's television credits include "Six Feet Under," "Ally McBeal," "King of Queens" and "Strong Medicine."

The Paper Mill Playhouse is located on Brookside Drive in Millburn, NJ. Call (973) 376-4343 for more information or visit www.papermill.org.
