News Paper Mill Finds Its Maria for Sound of Music Kate Baldwin, the rising actress who was Helen Hayes Award-nominated for playing Nellie Forbush in Arena Stage’s South Pacific last season, is expected to play another Rodgers and Hammerstein heroine in the fall.

Baldwin has been offered the role of Maria in The Sound of Music at Paper Mill: The State Theatre of New Jersey, running Oct. 29-Dec. 14. James Brennan directs and Tom Helm is musical director for the Millburn, NJ, staging.

Baldwin appeared in the original ensemble of Broadway’s Thoroughly Modern Millie and was a late-run ensemble player in The Full Monty. She was Ellen in Paper Mill’s Miss Saigon.
