Lee Blakeley, who staged A Little Night Music at Théâtre du Châtelet last season, directs the English-language production that features both Gilfry and Pomponi in the titular role.

Gilfry appeared in the national tour of South Pacific and the Châtelet production of The Sound of Music and alternates with baritone Pomponi (Hamlet, Don Pasquale, A Streetcar Named Desire). O'Connor is known for her performances in Chicago, Mack and Mabel and "Moulin Rouge." She stars as Mrs. Lovett.

The Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical is scheduled to play a four-week engagement through May 21. Lorena Randi choreographs with costumes and scenic design by Tanya McCallin.

Also cast are Jonathan Best as Judge Turpin, John Graham-Hall as Beatle Bamford, David Curry as Pirelli, Nicholas Garrett as Anthony, Rebecca Bottone as Joanna, Pascal Chardonneau as Tobias and Rebecca de Pont Davis as the Beggarwoman.

The Tony-winning musical Sweeney Todd centers on a vengeful London barber whose customers are never seen again. His accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, assists Todd in disposing of the evidence with the use of her creative culinary skills. Sweeney Todd, considered by many to be Stephen Sondheim's masterwork, features a book by Hugh Wheeler. The original production, helmed by Harold Prince, was set in a vast foundry, depicting the effects of the industrial revolution on humanity. It won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, when it premiered on Broadway in 1979 starring Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury.

The 2005 Broadway revival, directed by John Doyle, featured a reduced cast, all of whom played instruments as well as their respective roles. This production, starring Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone, was reconceived in an insane asylum and earned two Tony Awards.
