In the Boom Boom Room, David Rabe's play about a Go-Go dancer who has been abused by both her parents and her lovers, is receiving a 25th anniversary production at the Villanova Theatre at PA's Villanova University.
The play opens Feb. 11 and runs through Feb. 22.
In 1972, when the 32-year-old David Rabe was teaching playwrighting at Villanova, the premiere production of the play was staged at the college by Robert Hedley (then the theatre department chair and today the director of Temple Theatre). The critical response was overwhelming, prompting Joseph Papp to pay a visit to the college; the following year he mounted his own production, then titled In the Boom Boom Room, starring Madeline Kahn, at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in NY's Lincoln Center.
The current Villanova production stars Laurie A. Norton and is directed by Joanna Rotte.
Performances are Tue.-Sat. at 8 PM and Sun. at 2 PM. For tickets or information, call (610) 519-7474. -- By Rebecca Paller
