PASADENA, CA - Shakespeare's seldom-performed duo of Henry IV plays (Parts One and Two) will be mounted in sequence by the Pasadena Shakespeare Company, with company artistic director Gillian Bagwell in charge of both productions.

Part One, the final play on PSC's 2000 schedule, was launched recently and runs through Dec. 17. Part Two, the opening production of season 2001, has been scheduled for Jan. 6-Feb. 11, 2001.

Part One, one of the most enjoyable and accessible of Shakespeare's histories, juxtaposes the bawdy antics of Prince Hal and his bibulous sidekick, Falstaff, against England's need for the prince to shoulder his responsibilities as heir to the throne. The play ranges from the low comedy of Falstaff and his drinking buddies at the Broadshead Tavern to the epic drama of the war between the army and the forces led by the rebel Hotspur.

Part Two follows the continuing battle between loyalists and rebels, and focuses on Prince Hal's rejection of his old sidekick Falstaff upon his succession to the throne.

PSC, now entering its sixth season, has won numerous awards and much critical acclaim during its short life. Los Angeles Times called it a "first-rate theatrical company," while the Pasadena Star News hailed the PSC as "one of Pasadena's greatest treasures."Pasadena Shakespeare Company is located at 1000 Fremont Ave. For tickets and information call (626) 564-8564 or visit pasadenashakespeare.com
