Classic Arts News Pat Metheny Group Plans Ambitious New Album and World Tour Pat Metheny and his group have recorded a CD-length composition titled This Way Up, the guitarist announced on his web site.
"This is our most ambitious undertaking ever as a group," Metheny said. "We have never been so excited about a project. This record takes every aspect of the band to a new level."

The album, due out on January 11, 2005, will be Metheny's first distributed by the eclectic Nonesuch label. The move, prompted by a reorganization at Warner Brothers, Nonesuch's parent, reunites Metheny with Nonesuch president Robert Hurwitz, who helped to produce his albums at ECM in the 1970s and 1980s. "The wide-ranging musicality of what he's got going on over there makes it a perfect fit for what I aspire to myself as a musician," Metheny said.

On February 18, 2005, the Pat Metheny Group will open a world tour in support of the album in Toronto. Tour dates are listed below (European stops have not yet been announced).
