Classic Arts News Pavarotti Fan Steps into the Spotlight An enthusiastic Taiwanese fan of Luciano Pavarotti interrupted the tenor's press conference yesterday in Taiwan with a uninvited rendition of O Sole Mio, reports the South African Press Association.
After walking into the news conference at the Evergreen Laurel Hotel in Taichung, central Taiwan, Chang Pu-he, an amateur singer in his 30s based in Canada, begged Pavarotti to accept him as a student.

Pu-he said he was a lifelong fan and modestly declared himself the "Pavarotti of China," explaining that he had flown from Canada to Taichung to meet the tenor. According to the SAPA, his not-particularly-tuneful rendition was interrupted midway by organizers.

The Italian opera star plans to retire from singing after finishing his lengthy farewell tour.
