Classic Arts News Pavarotti Hits UK Singles Chart Download sales of Luciano Pavarotti's recording of "Nessun dorma" have hit number 24 on the UK singles chart in the wake of his death last week. The tenor's last hit single was in 1992, when his "Miserere," a song by the Italian pop musician Zucchero with English lyrics by Bono, made number 15.
Pavarotti gave his last public performance with the aria from Puccini's Turandot at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. "Nessun dorma" became his signature tune when it was used as the theme song for the BBC's coverage of the 1990 World Cup soccer tournament, the event at which The Three Tenors phenomenon was born.

His album titled "The Essential Pavarotti" made number one on the U.K. pop charts in 1990 and 1991.
