News Peláez Pours Rum & Coke Off-Broadway Beginning Feb. 1 Carmen Peláez's one-woman show Rum & Coke begins its Off-Broadway engagement at the Abingdon Theatre Feb. 1.

Cuban-American performance artist and actress Peláez penned the work in which she also stars. Carl Andress (Die, Mommie, Die!) directs the work, with a creative team including set designer Ken Larson, costume designer Jessica Jahn, lighting designer Matthew McCarthy, video designer Chris Kateff and sound designer Matt O'Hare.

Press materials for Rum & Coke state, "Pain is funny in this bracing one-woman show, as Camila plunges headlong into her family history during a trip to Havana via Miami. A ferociously comic look at life seen through a Cuban lens, this is a journey that is a hilariously poignant memoir."

Rum & Coke was previously staged by Area Stage in Miami; Chicago's Pegasus Theatre; HBO workspace in Los Angeles; the PS NBC space in New York; and the Coconut Grove Playhouses. Grandniece to painter Amelia Peláez and radio star Ernesto Galindo, Peláez has appeared in the films "Stroll," "Houseguest" and "Last Hand Standing," the latter a finalist in the Chrysler Extreme Filmmaking competition at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Rum & Coke officially opens Feb. 13 and will play a limited engagement through March 2. A Feb. 10 post-show talkback will feature Peláez as well as stage and screen star Lucie Arnaz.
