Performance artist, Claude Wampler, will premiere her latest performance/installation BUCKET, the working title at P.S. 122, for a limited engagement, Feb. 4-7, 1999.
As the title indicates, BUCKET, the working title highlights the artistic process -- worrying more about the creation of art than what statement(s) the art is saying. Specifically BUCKET, separates the elements of traditional opera -- set, costumes, vocal, musical and performance -- to analyze them in isolation. Wampler uses both live and recorded sound and video to examine the ideas of the genre and what makes those ideas genre-specific.
In December '98, Wampler was one of the few theatre-artists included in "Artforum" magazine's top ten lists (Robert Wilson and Philip Glass were the others). Her work has been seen in theatres and galleries internationally, including her stint at last year's National Review of Live Arts in Glasgow, Scotland.
BUCKET, the working title will play a limited engagement, Feb. 4 - 7, at P.S. 122. For tickets or more information, call (212) 477-5288.
