The program premieres on CUNY TV April 27 at 5 PM with additional air dates scheduled for May 2 at 9 AM and 2 and 7:30 PM and May 3 at 11 AM; all times ET. The broadcast features interviews with musical theatre actors Roger Bart (Young Frankenstein), Brian d'Arcy James (the forthcoming Shrek the Musical), Priscilla Lopez (In the Heights) and Sherie Rene Scott (The Little Mermaid). The Broadway favorites, according to press notes, will discuss "the differences between performing in musicals and straight plays; acting techniques and voice training; how they prepare for a performance; dealing with the 'triple threat' of acting, singing and dancing; balancing their lives on and off stage and their opinions on today's new composers."
The program is moderated by Melissa Rose Bernardo, theatre editor of Entertainment Weekly.
Beginning April 30, "Performing Musicals" will be available as streaming audio and podcast by visiting www.americantheatrewing.org.
