News Peter DiCesare, Julie Johnson to Star in Benefit Concert Production of Facing East The new musical Facing East will be presented in a one-night-only concert Aug. 27 to benefit Resource Center Dallas/Youth First.

The event will be performed at the Uptown Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX.   

Based on the play by Carol Lynn Pearson, Facing East features a score by David Rigano, with book and lyrics by Mark-Eugene Garcia. Directed by Andrew Hobgood, the cast will include Peter DiCesare as Andrew, Julie Johnson as Ruth, Jason Kane as Alex and Max Swarner as Marcus.

"The show follows an upstanding Mormon couple dealing with the suicide of their gay son," press notes state. "When they unexpectedly meet their son's lover, they must face a reality that until then has been ignored and reconcile their feelings and beliefs."

"In the Dallas-Fort Worth region I see a wonderful arts community to work within, and in tandem with, to continue to grow our show," executive producer Nathan Gardner said in a statement. "I see a city busting at the seams with things to offer. And I also see, on the other end of the spectrum, an audience that could benefit from seeing the story our show portrays."

Arrangements and orchestrations are by Daniel Klintworth with musical direction will be by Adam C. Wright. Resource Center Dallas works to empower the LGBT community and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities and providing transformative education and advocacy.
