According to TVLine, Gallagher will play Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) father in an episode which is set to premiere in January 2016 as part of the show's fifth season.
Gallagher and Greenfield both appeared on Fox's "The OC" as older and younger versions of patriarch Sandy Cohen, respectively.
On Broadway Gallagher has appeared in Grease, Guys and Dolls, Noises Off and more.
His daughter, Kathryn Gallagher, is currently making her Broadway debut as the Voice of Martha in Deaf West's revival of Spring Awakening.
