Chekhov's classic officially opens on Jan. 25, 2008, following previews from Jan. 16.
Directed by Peter Hall, the English Touring Theatre production will feature Nicholas Le Provost (The Wild Duck) in the title role with Neil Pearson (Old Times, Cloaca) as Astrov, Ronald Pickup as Serebryakov, Michelle Dockery as Yelena, Faith Brook as Maria, Loo Brearley as Sonya, David Ganly as Telegin and Antonia Pemberton as Marina.
Hall, whose production of Pygmalion will arrive at Kevin Spacey's Old Vic in May 2008, has been championing the Rose Theatre for the last five years. In 2004 his production of As You Like It was staged in the partially built theatre's shell as part of the In the Raw season.
Uncle Vanya is part of ETT founder Stephen Unwin's final season as the company's artistic director. He set up the touring company in 1993. Rachel Tackley takes over from Unwin in spring 2008.
Uncle Vanya is designed by Alison Chitty with lighting by Peter Mumford and sound design by Gregory Clarke. After the run at the Rose, which ends on Feb. 9, Hall's production embarks on a UK tour. For more on the Rose Theatre's first performance call (0)871 230 1552.
