News Peter Schneider Will Direct NYMF Production of Mata Hari in 8 Bullets, Starring Onalea Gilbertson The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and Charlie Fink will present Mata Hari in 8 Bullets, conceived and composed by David Rhymer, beginning July 8 at Signature Center's Studio Theater.

The musical, featuring lyrics by Blake Brooker and Rhymer, is choreographed by Odette Heyn (co-founder and co-director of Winnipeg contemporary dancers) and directed by Peter Schneider, Tony Award-winning producer of The Lion King and director of the London production of Sister Act.

Onalea Gilbertson will star in the title role in the musical, which will continue through July 20.

In Mata Hari, according to press notes, "Gilbertson conjures a fever dream into the heart, mind and soul of Mata Hari – erotic dancer, courtesan, and international superstar. Imprisoned by the French on charges of espionage during World War I, Mata Hari went from being Europe's most desired woman to its most despised. One of the most misunderstood women of the 20th century gets her chance at redemption in this unique musical blending art song and burlesque."

Other members of the creative team include costume designer Jannell Berte, lighting designer Zach Blane and stage manager Jesse Vacchiano.

Performances will be offered July 8 at 6:30 PM, July 10 at 8:30 PM, July 13 at 5:30 PM, July 16 at 1:30 PM, July 18 at 9:30 PM and July 20 at 5:30 PM. Signature Center's Studio Theater is located at 480 W. 42nd Street. For more information and tickets, call (212) 352-3101 or visit NYMF.org.
