Classic Arts News Philanthropist Presents Denmark With Its New Opera House The billionaire who helped fund Denmark's new opera house officially presented the venue to the government this week, in advance of the opening night next year, the Associated Press reports.
Shipping mogul Maersk Moeller funded the $417 million modern auditorium in Copenhagen, designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen. The venue will become part of the state-run Royal Theater, and will cost the government $23 million per year to operate.

The theater's first productions‹Verdi's Aida‹will open in January 2005.
